Hello!

 

My name is Cynthia Petersen, but my friends call me Cindy.  I grew up in Cedar Rapids and I know the town pretty well. It has grown quite a bit since I was little, but the hometown feel is still there. No matter where I have been in life, I still  couldn't wait to get back home.  It's not just my family and friends that make it great, but it's also the people. No one is a stranger to me; I think of people I don't know as friends I just haven't met yet. 

 

I have always wanted to be a writer. But writing wasn't enough for me. I wanted to do something with it. I went to Mount Mercy University after my kids were grown, and I earned a degree in Journalism. I started a newspaper in Hiawatha in 2012 and when I realized it was costing too much to print, I learned how to build websites and created an online newspaper. I learned how to self-publish on Kindle Direct Publishing and published a few novels, as well as published my parents' memoirs. 

 

My dad was a writer but he never got around to publishing his stories. So when I found his memoir in several boxes in my mom's basement, I was thrilled, and so was my family! It was like finding a gold mine because we learned about my dad's life as a small boy growing up in Cedar Rapids. 

 

Over the years, I learned all I could about content creation, social media management, writing blogs, marketing and about what makes small businesses successful. I have jumped on the Artificial Intelligence "bandwagon," and I'm learning how I can use it in my business, so I can help other businesses.
